Dubai Student Wellbeing Census

Together with Dubai schools, KHDA is working to support and improve the wellbeing of students.
In 2017, KHDA partnered with the Government of South Australia to conduct the first ever ‘Dubai Student Wellbeing Census’ (DSWC) for all students in Grades 6 to 9 (Years 7 to 10). In 2018, the Census was extended to students in Grades 10, 11 and 12 (Years 11, 12 and 13) after feedback from participating schools.

On October 31, 2021, we begin the fifth and final year of the Dubai Student Wellbeing Census (DSWC), which will run until November 30, 2021, giving us a total of five years of comprehensive student wellbeing data. This fifth year is a celebration of the journey schools have taken to learn more about their students’ wellbeing. We’re excited to see how this greater understanding of wellbeing reflects in future programmes and services.
The focus on happiness and wellbeing is supported by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who indicates that:

“We will seek to create a society where our people’s happiness is paramount, by sustaining an environment in which they can truly flourish.”

The Dubai Student Wellbeing Census is a five-year project to find out how students feel and think about their own wellbeing, happiness, quality of life and engagement. The Census is not a test and there are no right or wrong answers. The answers to each student’s questions are kept confidential and the results are not used to identify individuals.

Adults@School Wellbeing Survey

As part of our ongoing efforts to further improve wellbeing in our schools, KHDA has collaborated with The Wellbeing Lab to conduct a yearly Adults@School Wellbeing Survey. Three surveys have been conducted, commencing in 2018.

In 2020, just over 10,000 adults from 171 Dubai private schools, including teachers, support staff, administrators and principals, participated in the online survey..

Open to all adults at Dubai schools that interact with students, this fourth year of the survey will take place 31 October until 30 November, coinciding with the Dubai Student Wellbeing Census (DSWC). Schools that wish to participate in the 2021 Adults@School Wellbeing Survey must opt in. Participants can complete the survey online using any electronic device such as a mobile phone, tablet, or computer. All responses to the survey are confidential.

The Adults@School Wellbeing Survey is based on an adaptation of the PERMAH Workplace Survey inspired by Professor Martin Seligman’s positive psychology wellbeing theory for human flourishing. It combines leading research in the science of wellbeing with its application and provides science backed tools and practices to help adults at schools feel good and function effectively at work.
