This service allows schools to request that a student be exempt from studying a specific subject in exceptional circumstances. Exemption is not a substitute for adapted teaching, language support or inclusion provision, and will only be considered where current formal professional evidence shows the student’s identified need significantly affects access to the subject despite appropriate support.

1. School letter (signed by the Principal) — rationale to support the application and parents’ consent letter.
2. Last school report card with attainment levels across all subjects, and school assessment report from the relevant subject department.
3. Medical report (psychological assessment, speech and language assessment, etc.).
4. School summary of the student’s social and emotional wellbeing (behaviour, social skills, etc.), with supporting documents and the IEP.
5. Standardised Assessments (CAT/MAP — teachers’ version).

• Step 1: The school submits the exemption service request, including the academic assessment or medical diagnosis from an authorised entity in the UAE, with a clear explanation for the exemption.
• Step 2: KHDA reviews and audits the request to ensure all required documents are submitted. Additional documents may be requested if necessary.
• Step 3: Once approved, the exemption is processed and recorded on the KHDA system.
