Abu Dhabi: An agreement between Abu Dhabi Emiratisation Council (Adec) and the Higher Colleges of Technology - to train over 500 high school graduates - has been signed.
The deal was endorsed by Dr Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of the Adec and Dr Al Tayeb Kamali, Director of the HCT.
The 18-month programme will include vocational and practical training that meets international standards in the public and private sectors.
The officials said that the programme has achieved great success and contributed to the employment of more than 70 per cent of the graduates in Al Ain.
Successful students are expected to graduate in January 2010.
Based on a study of market needs, the council is working in coordination with HCT to offer new programmes that will enable Emiratis to qualify for work in key areas such as health, tourism, insurance and banking sectors.
"These courses come in the framework of the strategic vision set out by our leadership towards Emiratisation and providing public and private sectors with qualified national labour," said Abdullah Saeed Al Darmaki, Executive Director of the Adec. The programme includes three semesters, each for a period of 18 weeks.
The first and second semesters include general studies, essential skills, Arabic and English language skills, Information Technology, Maths, field trips, training and jobs-related knowledge.
In the third semester, trainees will be given the chance to train in areas such as management of small and medium enterprises.
