AL GHARBIA - Education authorities are evaluating the possibility of schools starting later in the day during winter, according to a senior education official.
Khalfan Isa Al Mansouri, Director of Western Region Educational Zone, said students, as young as five, currently have to leave home at 6am as schools start at 7.30am.
Al Mansouri said these students were vulnerable to winter diseases and traffic accidents due to the thick fog that occurs during the winter months.
However, he said the Zone will discuss the concerns of guardians before deciding on the proposed delay in school timing.
“We will study this issue very carefully and raise it with officials at Abu Dhabi Educational Council to find the best solution,’’ he said.
At present, schools end classes at around 2 pm. According to the new proposal, the revised timings are 8.30 am to 3 pm.
