DUBAI – In between lectures and meeting with friends, the typical college student regularly checks his Facebook account with a ferocious enthusiasm.
In a bid to tap into this trend, Dubai Women’s College has created a plethora of Facebook groups for keeping in touch with current students, alumni and prospective applicants. “We know that the younger generation loves Facebook and checks it regularly,” said Abrar Mikkawi, spokeswoman for DWC.
“Social media is a perfect way for us to keep in touch with our students, as well as alumni,” she added. “We also have Facebook groups for contacting prospective students, for the purposes of marketing.”
Kinda Nahhas, graduate relations officer at DWC runs a Facebook group dedicated to maintaining contact with alumni.
“Many of our alumni are employed in high positions in society,” she said. “They can help us find employment for our recent graduates.”
The success of the group is evident, with the number of members leaping from 108 last month to 280 this month.
“I am promoting this group among our final year students,
as they will soon be graduates,”
said Nahhas.
