Dubai International Academic City, a member of TECOM Investments and the world's only free zone dedicated to international higher education, today announced infrastructure work on additional student amenities, including on-campus accommodation facilities, is rapidly progressing and will be completed as scheduled.

Announcing its support of the Gulf Education and Training Exhibition (GETEX), the Middle East's leading education show, being held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from 2-5 April, Dr. Ayoub Kazim, Executive Director, Dubai Knowledge Village and DIAC, said construction of the food court, started in December 2007, will be completed in June 2008.

When completed, DIAC's on-campus accommodation will incorporate modern conveniences and include apartments of varying sizes and price range for the benefit of students.

DIAC is also exploring the option of setting up sports facilities and a student activities centre this year.

Dr. Kazim said: 'Since Dubai International Academic City's launch in 2007, we have successfully attracted leading universities from various parts of the world. Top ranked institutes of higher learning such as the Michigan State University Dubai, Murdoch University International Study Centre Dubai and the Hult International Business School have recently established base at our growing academic community.

'The presence of these institutions in Dubai allows foreign and local students the opportunity to experience world class education, even as we work towards a long-term strategy to match the country's exponential economic growth and develop the region's talent pool'.

Created in response to the tremendous growth that Dubai Knowledge Village has witnessed over the past four years, the Dubai International Academic City has successfully drawn educational institutions from around the world.

Over 20 international universities of higher learning from Australia, India, Pakistan, Iran, Russia, Belgium, UK and Ireland have currently set up base at DIAC, serving more than 10,000 students.
