Dubai: Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, yesterday rewarded 27 students and three teachers for excelling at their University of Cambridge international examinations.
The Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Cambridge Awards, in its sixth year, took place at the Mina A'Salam Hotel, Dubai.
University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) offer the Cambridge International Curriculum for 5 to 19 year olds, professional qualifications for teachers and vocational qualifications for adult learners. CIE qualifications are taken in 150 countries.
"These achievements are the start of a bright future for the talented students of the United Arab Emirates," said Christine Daw, CIE's Regional Manager for Middle East and North Africa.
The awards recognised students in the following categories:
Cambridge Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement, to the top male and top female candidate in each of the three regions (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Other Emirates) at Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge International AS and A Level;
Cambridge Top in the World Prizes, to those candidates who have achieved the highest standard mark in the world in a Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge International AS or A Level subject in the June 2007 examination session;
Cambridge Special Achievement Award, to a student who has achieved academically whilst overcoming significant personal challenges; and
Cambridge Award, to students who have made significant contributions to the life of the school and the local community.
Each student winner received a certificate.
