Dubai: Dubai traffic police have boosted their presence in front of government and private schools to protect pupils from run over accidents.
Officers from the Dubai Police Traffic Department have intensified their patrols near schools, which will continue throughout the academic year.
Lieutenant Colonel Saif Al Mazroui, acting director of the department, said the presence of officers in front of schools from 7am to 8am, aims to protect the pupils from run over accidents.
The officers will also protect them from road dangers and provide safety and security for them.
He said the officers also contribute in easing traffic movement and avoiding traffic jams in front of schools.
Lt Col Al Mazroui called on motorists, bus drivers and parents to be cautious while driving around schools and the nearby roads, especially when pupils arrive or leave the schools.
He also called on field officers at schools to take precautionary measures when vehicles enter or leave the schools.
Two schoolgirls, who got off from their school bus on February 14, were killed after being run over by a car in Ras Al Khaimah. The two girls - a 5-year-old and a 14-year-old- sustained severe injuries when they were hit by the speeding car.
