DUBAI - Manipal University, formerly known as Mahe, in Dubai yesterday launched five engineering programmes along with the launch of its own campus at the Dubai International Academic City (DIAC).

About 250 students will be enrolled for its BE courses in Mechatronics Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, which begin this September.

Anand Sudarshan, MD and CEO of Manipal Education, told Khaleej Times, “We are building our own campus in DIAC, which would accommodate 3,000 students. It will be ready in 18 months.”

Though the college is presently situated at DIAC, it will move to its own campus once it is ready. The college, which is reputed in the Indian sub-continent, is situated in Dubai’s free zone and is so far not accredited to the UAE Ministry of Higher Education.

Sudarshan, however, told KT that the college would be seeking local accreditation soon. “We have started the process and we will be locally accredited in the near future. We are good corporate citizens and definitely will seek local accreditation,” he said.

Indian cricketer and brand ambassador for the Manipal Education Group, Anil Kumble, awarded provisional admission certificates to the first five students of the varsity’s newly-launched engineering programmes.

Kumble said, “In today’s competitive world there is no substitute to sound education. One may choose to excel in diverse fields, but a solid educational background will always give one the confidence and an edge over others. Furthermore, being an engineer myself it gives me immense pleasure to be formally launching a top ranked Indian university’s engineering programmes in Dubai.”

Indian Consul General in Dubai Venu Rajamony, who was present on the occasion, said, “Manipal University’s vision and emerging global presence coupled with dedicated faculty has made it a unique academic institution with an enviable track record.”
