More than 60 students from various high-schools in the UAE attended a series of workshops and seminars organized by Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), the region's premier integrated innovations hub for high-tech industries, to acquire in-depth learning on the importance of microelectronics, semiconductors and chips that go into the production of electronic products of daily use.

The two-day initiative, organised at the DSOA premises, was conducted in collaboration with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid's IT Education Project (ITEP), the largest IT training provider in the UAE. The events aimed to educate students on latest IT developments around the world, its future implications, and the companies currently operating within the techno-park.

The events also helped students gain rich insights into DSO's operations and the success it has achieved in establishing itself as the number one high-tech hub in the Middle East.

Students were taken around the premises to see for themselves the world class services and facilities DSO offers to businesses for setting up their regional headquarters and R&D divisions in the Middle East and North Africa region.

They were also briefed on the important role the DSOA plays in building and developing national talent through MoUs, especially with academic institutions specializing in IT related programmes.

Dr. Juma Al Matrooshi, Chief Corporate Services Officer - Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority, said: "The workshops and seminars were part of a larger plan we have envisioned for raising IT literacy rate within the country. We believe secondary school is the best stage to launch the programme as students are key contributors to the future of IT in the region. Visits and events such as these facilitate their understanding of the sector and its needs, which will hopefully inspire them to choose IT as their course of study.

"I would like to thank the officials of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed ITEP project for arranging the visits and helping us involve the students in our programme." Students and the academic institutions expressed their gratitude to DSOA for offering an enriching experience and added they would like to participate in future workshops and seminars to broaden their IT horizons.
