Monday, 3 May, 2020 – In a unique development for Dubai’s education community, a new private school in Dubai welcomed its first students to online lessons and virtual assemblies. Open to students from kindergarten to Grade 5 in its first year of operation, the Pearl Wisdom School welcomed its first students via distance learning earlier in April this year.
Interestingly, the school is yet to host students at its new campus in Hor Al Anz, as teachers continue to provide lessons through the school’s distance learning platform.
Mohammed Darwish, Chief Executive Officer of Permits and Compliance Sector at Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) noted, “We continue to welcome new schools and create more choices for families in Dubai and this is a unique development for us. We are delighted to welcome the Pearl Wisdom School and appreciate their flexibility and willingness to adapt to this unique situation. This new school provides parents with affordable education options and builds on our commitment to create greater capacity across curriculums and different price points.”
Creating 2400 additional school seats in Dubai, the school’s annual fees range from AED 14,500 to AED 16,500.
Sooraj Ramachandran, Vice Chairman of Bhavans said, “The opening of our new school in Dubai comes with lot of hope and expectation as we aspire to provide a school with great teachers, wonderful learning environment and great facilities - all at an affordable price point.”
With students in different parts of the world and academic staff connecting virtually the school has had a unique opening experience.
“When we opened our school, it was an entirely new experience where both the teachers and students had to connect virtually. This was a big challenge as none of our teachers have met each other yet. The parent community at our school has been extremely supportive and we have been transparent at all times,” added Sooraj.
The school has hosted virtual parent-teacher orientation sessions, student council activities, virtual assemblies and online lessons for its founding batch of students.
“We are one of the very few schools in the world that has opened during a global pandemic. This is a challenge that we’ve turned into an opportunity,” said Sooraj.
The Pearl Wisdom School features curated learning spaces that include creative play areas, nature zones and other facilities.
Dubai has added 30 new schools over the last three years, creating over 24,000 additional new seats. Enrolment in Dubai private schools has seen an increase of 2.1 per cent last year.
