DUBAI - A comprehensive lifestyle modification programme to reduce obesity in school children will be implemented by the Ministry of Health (MoH) in schools across the country during the coming academic year.
The programme will include nutritional guidance, physical exercise, health education for students and their families in addition to periodical medical examinations by a medical team. As part of the programme, a physical education teacher will ensure that each student exercised for at least 30 minutes through intensive one-on-one training. Besides monitoring the children's weight loss on a weekly basis.
Fresh fruits, vegetables, fresh juice, cheese and milk will soon replace junk food in school canteen. The Ministry of Education (MoE) also plans to ban junk food in all public and private schools in the UAE and will set new health standards in schools from next academic year.
