Dubai: Some 1,800 pupils will help assess the ability of schools in Dubai to give them the skills they require to meet real-life challenges once they have completed their basic education.

Fifteen year old pupils in 64 schools in Dubai will be assessed on whether their schools have given them the skills they need for adult life as part of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).

Fatima Al Merri, CEO of the Dubai Schools Agency, said, the assessment is forward looking, focusing on young people's ability to use their knowledge and skills to meet real-life challenges.

"Achieving these things requires commitment from everyone - the schools, the teachers, the parents and, more importantly, the students themselves," said Al Merri.

The pupils will start sitting the internationally established test by May 1.
