ABU DHABI - As a step to improve education in the country, academic accreditation standards would be implemented from the next academic year in the public schools, a top official at the Ministry of Education (MoE) said.

Rashid Al Nuaimi, director-general of the ministry said, “In terms of international standards, the MoE’s Executive Council on Monday discussed with the schools’ directors, the educational environment and the academic resources that are considered the main conditions for providing public schools with academic accreditation.”

“The new academic accreditation standards will be applied in public schools at the beginning of the next academic year on a preliminary basis to be followed with the evaluation process by a specialised team from the ministry,” he said.

“The purpose of the academic accreditation standards is to evaluate the current academic programmes, develop teachers’ performances, and provide UAE students with the best international educational practices as well as provide best educational services, examine the current standards, and provide a healthy and safe education environment for public school students in the UAE,” added Al Nuaimi.

The MoE is very keen on supporting decentralisation of policies and distributing authority to educational councils, zones and schools that would lead to a positive impact on education, he said.
