DUBAI — Private schools will have to ensure health, safety and security of students besides complying with licensing standards, set down by the Federal Education Authority.
This follows a decree issued on Wednesday by Education Minister Dr Hanif Hassan, laying down tasks and responsibilities of various departments to cut down bureaucracy and increase efficiency. The decree also formalises the new organisational structure of the ministry that did away with all 28 departments to form 16 new ones.
As per the order, Department of Private Schools’ Supervision in the ministry will approve the operation of new private schools only if they meet the authority’s standards and warrant the safety, security and health of its pupils. Though educational zones in each emirate will issue licences for schools, it will be approved by the ministry only if they meet its guidelines. The department also mandates that private school teachers will be permitted to teach in the country only after their credentials are verified. Headed by Dr Maryam Al Ali, it will help in the roll out of accreditation guidelines to be followed by all private schools.
