abu dhabi — Major General Mohammed Salim Al Ameri, the Director General of Civil Defence Department at the Ministry of Interior, has said that fire safety measures should be incorporated into the school curricula.
He said such a move would educate the students about fire safety systems, thereby reducing the chances of fire.
“Some 27 incidents of fire breaking out in schools have been reported in less than two years, with 16 blazes registered in 2007 itself. From January to September 2008, 11 incidents of fires were reported,” he said, while adding that most of the fires were caused by faulty electricity connection and inexperience of students.
He said that Civil Defence inspectors were making regular inspections of schools to ensure they were complying with the required safety measures.
