SHARJAH — Parents of female students of government schools flooded the Sharjah Education Zone on Monday with a barrage of complaints about the hardships they were facing in getting school uniforms for their wards at the location specified by the zone.
The education zone had earmarked the Industrial School opposite the old Traffic Police Department building for the delivery of school uniforms.
However, when contacted, Muna Shuhail, Deputy Director of Sharjah Education Zone, clarified that the timing for the disposal of the uniforms had been fixed between 5 and 8 pm for this whole month but some parents were arriving at the venue as early as 3pm, a time when the accountants are not present.
She explained that notices had been posted on the school entrances, clearly showing the time for collecting the uniforms.
The accountants, she said, collect the uniform fees and hand the same to the contractor who prepares the uniform.
"If the parents arrive at the venue before time and then complain of delays, it's unjustified," she pointed out.
As part of the zone's efforts to streamline the procedures, the contractor has been asked to hand over uniforms to the students whose families failed to collect the clothes, on the first day of the new academic session. The Industrial School was earmarked to hand over uniforms to students of 42 schools in the emirate.
Parents of students studying at six remote schools, including at Madam, Nizwa, Thamed and Melliha, will collect their uniforms from Hilaliat School.
