Dubai: The e-Total Quality Management (e-TQM) College has launched a new masters programme for health care professionals to learn managerial skills.

The Masters of Science in Public Health: Excellence in Health Care Management was designed to equip health care professionals and fresh graduates with practical managerial skills.

"The impressive growth of the health and medical services sector in the Middle East has created a critical need for formal managerial and organisational skills," Dr Mansoor Al Awar, Vice President of e-TQM College, said at a press conference where the degree was announced.

The programme is supported by the Dubai Health Authority and has been accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the American Academy for Continuous Medical Education. It will be held in September.

First time

Dr. Narimane Haj Hamou, assistant vice-president for academic affairs at the college, emphasised this is the first masters programme in health sciences that is based on e-learning to be accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The Masters of Science in Public Health: Excellence in Health Care Management allows learners to continue working full-time while pursuing the degree.

Dr. Narimane said learners may first participate in the Senior Hospital and Health Services Managers Programme, which consists of four courses making up 12 credits.Learners may opt to exit the programme at this time.

Certificate

They will receive a certificate from e-TQM College, or they can continue their studies in order to obtain the masters degree, consisting of 30 credits.

Salah Fakhouri, Chief Executive Officer of Health Management Members of INDEX Holdings, which was involved in the development of the programme, said: "It was a big challenge to move the programme from Europe to Dubai. It was also challenging to put it together."

He said the programme was developed in such a way as to meet the needs of the health care industry and professionals locally, regionally and internationally.
