ABU DHABI — The future economic growth and civic development of Abu Dhabi will be the responsibility of our youth.
Preparing them for their role in our society and to contribute towards our future prosperity is our responsibility, thereby ensuring continued success in the realisation of the vision of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
This was stated by Dr Mugheer Khamis Mugheer Gaber Al Khaili, who has taken over as Director-General for the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), an independent entity with full legal authority to manage its own financial and administrative affairs, following the enforcement of the new education law yesterday.
“I am very proud to be appointed director-general of the newly reorganised Abu Dhabi Education Council,” said Dr Al Khaili.
He said the education law will contribute to the realisation of the vision of Shaikh Khalifa and General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council. The enforcement of the law will directly support the education reform initiative and is a major part of the restructuring, he added.
Under the law, ADEC will set the comprehensive policy for the education sector in the emirate of Abu Dhabi and take necessary actions to ensure its implementation. This law represents the emirate’s first step toward creating a high quality, comprehensive system of education that would meet international standards and prepare students for future jobs that will enable them to participate in the country’s economic growth.
The Abu Dhabi Education Council has been given the responsibility of implementing supervision of all education zones and schools in the emirate, determine, develop and implement standards which will be followed by all authorised education entities in the emirate, and develop the human resources management strategy.
The Abu Dhabi education reform is part of the federal education strategy of decentralised education and private sector involvement. In support of this, part of the emirate’s education reform vision is to provide school administrators with increased autonomy to manage schools and make decisions that meet local needs.
ADEC will collaborate with the Ministry of Education to improve national education policies, and the Abu Dhabi Government will continue to meet its existing federal funding requirements.
