DUBAI — Children from various centres for special needs on Friday travelled in a convoy of 25 cars from Jafliya to the Palm Islands, passing through Diyafah Street and Jumeirah Beach Road, and visited the newly-opened aquarium.

The event, themed ‘Nurturing the Seeds of Change’, was organised by the Community Development Authority (CDA) with the aim of enhancing the integration of special needs children into mainstream society.

“We are developing a strategy that can help us make a positive change in the society at all levels. As part of this strategy, we are committed to making sure that children with special needs are included positively in the society and accepted,” said Dr Maryam Mattar, Director-General of CDA.

Dr Maryam expressed her gratitude to Dubai Police for escorting the convoy from start to finish, and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) for ensuring that the route was clear and unrestricted.

The children, too, were thrilled to see the colourful underwater world at the aquarium, which is home to a large number of marine species.

As part of its ‘Nurturing the Seeds of Change’ initiative, the CDA is developing a host of community activities aimed at improving social cohesion through volunteer work.
