A sound education is the most important gift that the present generation can leave for its successors. The future of the UAE lies with its young people and nothing is more important than the ability to be able to think for oneself, and make up one's own mind; sure in the knowledge that the reasoning behind a decision is sound, and can stand up to the world's analysis.

This is why it has been so important for the UAE to acknowledge its mistakes in the school curricula, and to implement reform. Far too many pupils have gone through the system for years, learning too much by rote, and remaining unaware of their true potential.

The importance of the Madaris Al Ghad (Schools for Tomorrow) programme that the Ministry of Education has completed in 50 trial schools around the country, is that it will offer pupils more of essential skills that they need in the global world. At the same time, it also improves the standard of teaching and how pupils are taught about their country's history and culture. This should be welcomed by all pupils and parents, despite the disturbance of the change.
