DUBAI - Dr Steve Franklin, board chairman of the American University in Dubai (AUD), has lauded His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for his vision of higher education and commitment to providing educational opportunities to the youth.
Speaking at the AUD board meeting, he said: “This is epitomised in the latest initiative of conferring scholarships to outstanding students of the Mohammed bin Rashid School for Communication (MBRSC), and the unparalleled support to the university’s ongoing quest for academic excellence as a premier institution of higher education in the GCC region.”
At the meeting, AUD Governing Board discussed the expansion plans of the university and the approval of its by-laws and budgets, overseeing of academic progress and advice on university leadership.
Dr. Franklin elaborated on the true model of a successful American educational institution offering an unsurpassed quality of education that AUD exemplifies. This, he said, is confirmed by the university’s accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) for the third time earlier this year.
The board also mulled the election of officers and the ratification of AUD’s new mission and purpose-related goals as developed by students, faculty, and staff.
The meeting reviewed and approved the 2008-2009 strategic plans.
