DUBAI — From the next academic year, the UAE Ministry of Health will launch a programme to help schoolchildren adopt a healthy lifestyle.
The MoH recently inked an agreement with the Johnson and Johnson Company for the programme starting with Grade 1 students. However, the programme will initially be implemented among the students of government schools in Sharjah and then spread to all schools in the country, according to a senior MoH official.
"Raising the schoolchildren's awareness on adopting a proper and healthy lifestyle is a priority to ensure better health for the future generations. This may be realised by following proper nutrition habits, exercising and participating in sports, and avoiding bad habits such as smoking," said Dr Ali bin Shukr, Chief Executive Officer of Support Services at the MoH.
A joint team from the Ministry of Health, Sharjah Education Zone and Johnson and Johnson Company will be jointly working on the programme that would discuss issues such as obesity, malnutrition and smoking.
"Both children and their parents will be part of the project," Bin Shukr added.
