ABU DHABI — The Ministry of Education (MoE) is planning new measures to ensure the safety of students in school buses, according to an informed source at the ministry.

The move comes after the occurrence of several school bus-related incidents, including the death of a three-year-old Indian child, Aatesh, 3, in a school bus.

The source, who declined to be named, told Khaleej Times yesterday that the Minister of Education, Dr Hanif Hassan, is following the case of the Indian child who died on April 24.

The Abu Dhabi Education Zone has already prepared a report on the accident and sent it to the Ministry of Education for further investigation.

According to the law, the schools’ administrations are responsible for taking care of the students even after leaving the school on the way to their homes as the conductors on buses should be qualified and observe the pupils when they pick them up or drop them off at the designated places.

The MoE’s move came in light of the minister’s directives to follow up the investigations and form a committee to study setting up measures for more student security at schools and on buses.
