DUBAI — Emirati women students at the Dubai Women's College (DWC) have called for faster Emiratisation and expressed their keenness to one day take the responsibility of running huge businesses in the region, particularly in the export and import industry, in glaring contradiction to what Arab women have done in the past.

Fatma Al-Rome Al Muhairi, a first year student of Higher Diploma Business and this year's general manager of the two-day Current Issues Forum 2008 (CIF) which ended at the college in Al Qusais on Monday, expressed her desire to see greater role for women in the business world.

Talking about the inevitable role of local women five years from now, Fatma says, "I want to become a role model for the next generation of Emirati women.  Hence, I am for the Emiratisation in the country in the near future. "I look at myself five years from now as an active business woman, who will be among the managers and leaders in the global market."

A similar dream is alive in the heart of Khulood Al Marzouqi, another first year student of business, one of the five students exhibiting the whys and hows of 'Globalisation and Arbitration'.

"We believe that Emirati women must lead the huge business undertakings in the future. We believe that in times of conflict, business people can save a lot in the settlement of cases through arbitration," she added.

She further explained that the process of arbitration would enable quick justice as arbitrators hear the evidence from the parties to a dispute and then issue an 'award' that decides who gets what.  Two other students, Noora Ali and Roudha bin Hezaim, have also supported the same notion of taking an active role in the business world one day
