Dubai: A Kenyan contestant in the Dubai International Holy Quran Award and his instructor have appealed for help on behalf of their boarding school in Kenya, which caters to orphans and poor children is under threat of closure due to lack of funds.
The instructor, Maqboul Ilahi, who is accompanying his student Ebrahim Mousa, said that Dar Al Quran Al Kareem society caters to 600 male and female boarding students who are mainly poor, and more than 400 day-time students.
For years the centre was survived by generous donations which were cut down to few ones following recent incidents, mainly 9/11, said Ilahi.
Twelve-year-old Ebra-him has won a couple of local competitions.
Upon his return to Kenya, Ebrahim will start learning Arabic and Quranic sciences, said Ilahi.
