DUBAI — Even as the Gems outsourcing debate rages on, officials from the school management and Knowledge and Human Development Authority yesterday said they were working on it.
“We are working with Gems on several issues at present, one of which is the schools’ bus services.
This affects thousands of schoolchildren and their families, and we are aware of the importance of the outcome of this collaboration,” the KHDA said. In an earlier statement to Khaleej Times, the KHDA, however, had disapproved of the move by the school group. Mohammed Darwish, Chief of Licensing and Customer Relations at KHDA, had said, “Schools do not have the right to change services during the academic year. These changes must be in place from the beginning of an academic year so that parents can plan their finances properly.
“We sympathise with the parents who are anxious about the extra costs connected with their children’s travel. We understand how worrying any price rise is and how they can affect a family’s budget. We are concerned that this is happening now.”
