Dubai, UAE, August 31, 2008 – Several officials from the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) and its Schools Agency visited several schools in Dubai to welcome students on their first day at school. During the visits, the officials conveyed to the schools that this year will be all about school improvement and development.

Fatma Al Marri, CEO of the Agency, welcomed students and wished them a fruitful year filled with success and achievements. She said, “The highlight of this year will be the work put in to improve and develop schools through the newly-launched unit, the Schools Support Unit. This unit will work on applying the best practices, and will be improving and developing areas that Dubai Schools Inspection Bureau deem necessary. The entire improvement process will work according to a plan set by the Agency to elevate and enhance the quality of education and learning to match internationally recognized standards.”

She added, “We are constantly working on establishing communication channels with schools, and visiting these schools is one of the channels. Through this channel of direct communication, we will be working closely with administrators and teachers to achieve the best results for our students. We will use their valuable input that is derived from their day to day experiences and challenges that they face. We will work with them to make our educational system one of the best systems in the world. This goal very is doable, as Dubai has created a revolution in many aspects, and education will be one of the aspects.”

Dr. Abdulla Al Karam, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of KHDA also visited schools in Al Safa and Jumeira and met with the students and staff. Fatma al Marri visited schools and welcomed students in Zabeel and Al Safa schools.

Dr. Wafi Dawood, Chief of Organizational Excellence visited schools in Karama. Taha Al Hamri, Head of the Administrative Services Unit (ASU), visited schools in Lasail, Al Awir and Khawaneej.

Mohammed Darwish, Chief of Licensing and Partner Relations visited schools in Al Mamzar and Al Twar. A team from ASU visited several schools across Dubai.

Earlier in the month (August 28), the Schools Agency held a meeting with all the government school principals to present its plans for the new academic year.
