AL AIN - The Al Ain Education Zone reported two weeks ago that children in private schools generally performed as well or better than the public schools although many irregularities have been discovered through a number of surprise visits to almost eight schools.

Norah Mohamed Al Rashidy, deputy director of Private and Qualitative Education said: “We have studied closely the laws and regulations governing private schools. The lists are now available at the schools to avoid things like crowding in school buses, employment of unqualified teachers, neglect of hygiene and public health and, unethical practices.” He added: “Our goal is to educate the public on two fronts. First, we often hear private schools being described as ‘unregulated’ by vested interests.

“Private schools are in fact regulated and are accountable to the public. Secondly, there is a wide variation from region to region in the quality of private schools.”

Abu Al Majed Hani Seiam, Al Safwah Private School principal, said: “What a local newspaper published, saying negative things about us, was unfair. The situation here is good . We are providing high standard of education. We follow all the rules as laid down by the authorities.”
