The recent death of a four-year-old child in a school bus raises serious issues concerning their absence in some schools. The tragic incident should be a step to ensuring that similar accidents are prevented in future.
The Abu Dhabi Educational Zone (ADEZ) has found serious lapses by the school that led to the death of the child.
"A three-member committee constituted by ADEZ to investigate the death of the child found that the [school] did not follow the mandatory rules issued by the Ministry of Education for the safety and security of children," said Mohammad Salem Al Daheri, Director of ADEZ.
It is positive to set and enforce rules across all schools. But what is more important is that the authorities follow up on their execution.
Regulations are pointless unless measures guaranteeing their implementation are applied. Children's safety is a serious matter that should be dealt with accordingly.
