Dubai: The 20th Gulf Education and Training Exhibition (Getex), a leading education and recruitment forum in the region, attracted hundreds of students and professionals on its second day on Thursday.
The exhibition is being held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. On Thursday visitors and delegations from six schools in the UAE met with representatives from over 500 educational institutions, discussing course offerings, training programmes and recruitment opportunities.
The Getex Educational Equipment and Technology Exhibition, which mainly targets investors and buyers in the education sector, was visited by delegations from the Ministry of Higher Education in Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Education from Iraq, delegates from the Kurdistan region, and from the Ministry of Education in the UAE.
A commission from Abu Dhabi's Industrial City also toured the display.
In the third and final day of the Global Forum on Technology and Innovation in Education yesterday, which was held alongside Getex, Dr Ayoub Kazim, Executive Director of Dubai Knowledge Village and Dubai International Academic City, said higher education can turn Dubai into an education hub.
The city already hosts 20 international universities and about 240 training institutes. "In line with the Dubai Strategy Plan, the projected number of universities in Dubai will increase to around 40 by 2015," Kazim said.
He addressed the need to increase the quantity and quality of UAE graduates to meet demands from the labour market, primarily in the fields of industrial manufacturing, real estate, biotechnology, communication and finance.
