Dubai Government's Human Resources committee held an awareness lecture  in the Al Marasi ballroom at Jumeirah Beach Hotel.

The lecture was part of the HR Committee's aims to enhance the skills of those who work in HR, and to promote new trends in HR management. The forum started with a speech about the Committee by Nasir Al Hamli, followed by a welcome speech by Committee chairman Dr. Abdulla Al Karam addressing the changes that Dubai has been undergoing for the past year-and-a-half. 

He spoke about the new authorities that are aiming to change the classic method of management and to elevate the standards of governmental services to meet standards of excellence. He pointed out that the human capital is the main element of this transformation.

Dr Abdulla said: "The human element is the main structure in the process of development that the UAE, and specifically Dubai, is undergoing. We will work on developing and maintaining that element, and we will work on linking the students to the job market by encouraging them to work while studying." 

He added, "Employees shifting jobs is a healthy trend that we should view positively. For it is similar to the circulation of blood that nourishes the entire government body, as long as we set a system to regulate its operation." He added: "The salary is no longer the main motive to seek jobs in this era. The social value of the services offered by the employee is the main factor for job seekers, and the main factor to achieve customer and employee satisfaction." 

He was followed by Mohammed Masood Al Kharoosi, an expert in HR management, who spoke about the transformation that the world of HR is undergoing, from its classic role of managing employee affairs to a strategic partnership role that treats the employee as a vital element in any company and a main contributor to the success of the company. 

Committee Member Mustafa Hindi said Mr Al Kharoosi has great expertise in HR management, and viewed his input as a highly valuable addition to the skill development of those responsible for HR management. 

Hindi added, "The lecture series that the HR committee is organizing will help to change the attitude of  those working in the governmental agencies in Dubai. This will help strengthen the partnership between those working in the agencies and the decision makers in a way that serves the strategic plan of the Executive Council of Dubai, and the DSP 2015." 

The attendees included Dr Abdulla Al Karam, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, Committee members Nasir Al Hamri, Mustafa Hindi and Dr Yoused Al Akraf, and HR and non-HR managers from all the governmental agencies. 

The lecture is part of a programme of activities approved by the HR Committee for the current year, supporting the issuing of the HR law and the practical implementation of it in local departments and authorities. The Committee has started a wide-scale campaign to increase awareness and to train HR officials in the Government of Dubai, and it has started enrolling them in workshops regarding job descriptions, evaluation, and analysis.

HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, had issued earlier a decree to form the Dubai HR committee, to be headed by Dr. Abdulla Al Karam. The members of the committee are: Abdul Aziz Al Ali, Hussam Al Sayed, Mustafa Al Hindi, Amal Mohammad Bin Oudai, Yoused Al Akraf, Kawthat Kazem, and Nasser Thani Al Hamli.

Also a coordinator, Dr Ahmad Wareyah, was named Head of Strategic HR in the Executive Council. The committee's role is to execute and accomplish the mission and objectives set by the HR law for the government of Dubai.
