Dubai Mohammad Saeed Harib, the creator of Middle East's widely popular 3D animated series Freej, paid a surprise visit to Al Ittihad Private School, Dubai, with four of his famous characters.
The visit was part of Dubai Cares' Million Book Challenge. The campaign lobby has recruited prominent members of the community to visit schools throughout the UAE to read children's favourite books and encourage students to keep reading in their quest to reach the one million-book mark by 16 November.
Reem Al Hashimy, Chairperson of Dubai Cares Board of Directors, said: "The Mystery Reader is Dubai Cares' way of creating excitement among the nation's youth and reminding them that reading is fun - a habit that we hope children will retain even after the Million Book Challenge has concluded. The response so far has been overwhelming."
The campaign invites all students aged between three and 14 years to collectively read 1,000,000 books in two weeks.
For each book read, Dubai Cares will purchase and donate a book in the local language to needy children around the world. The last date of the challenge is November 16.
"The Million Book Challenge is truly a great way to encourage children to read and to celebrate the gift of learning," said Harib.
The total number of books read until November 10 was 640,688. For more details about the drive visit Dubai Cares website.
