Sharjah: Four outstanding students of the American University of Sharjah (AUS) have secured prestigious Shaikh Khalifa Scholarships for the current academic year, university officials announced on Tuesday.
The scholarship funds come from the Dh10 million donation announced by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan during his visit to Sharjah University City in 2005.
The winners of the 2008-2009 Shaikh Khalifa Scholarships are: Shirin Shaikh of the School of Business and Management, Noor Wael Mirza from the College of Arts and Sciences, Hesham Zakaria Aichour from the College of Engineering and Ahmad Hosni from the School of Architecture and Design.
The scholarships, launched in March last year, take into account academic excellence, leadership potential, community service and participation in extracurricular activities.
Congratulating the winners, AUS Chancellor Dr Peter Heath said: "You should be proud of what you have achieved. Your hard work and determination to succeed have finally paid off." He also expressed his gratitude to Shaikh Khalifa for his support to the varsity.
