SHARJAH — Experts, school teachers and counsellors are discussing how to tackle learning disabilities and dyslexia in a series of workshops that began on Sunday.
A group of international medical experts and more than 150 healthcare workers, counsellors and school teachers are attending the workshops, being hosted by the Health and Wellness Centre at the Sharjah Higher Colleges of Technology in partnership with the Centre for Child Evaluation and Teaching in Kuwait.
The workshops, being held under the patronage of Shaikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, chairperson of the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, will go on till June 5.
Internationally acknowledged educational psychologist Dr Gavin Reid, who is also a consultant on learning disabilities at the Centre for Child Evaluation and Teaching (CCET) based in Kuwait, is leading the workshops.
The workshops will be delivered in Arabic in two series — one designed for teachers, and the other for counsellors and health specialists.
They are being held over four days. Teachers from the Sharjah Education Zone, social workers and counsellors from Sharjah and surrounding emirates are attending.
A group of 16 specially selected final-year students of Sharjah Women's College will also be part of them.
