DUBAI — Teachers’ benefits and incentives were among the many issues discussed at a recent meeting of education experts from the Middle East and North Africa in Muscat, Oman.

Dr Abdullah Al Amiri, Adviser to the UAE Minister of Education who attended the fourth Meeting of the Ministers of Education in the Middle East and North Africa Region, said a good part of the discussions on financing and supporting education was about teachers’ incentives.

The current status of education and teachers, impact of economy on teachers’ salaries, finance and human resource systems, professional development programmes and ways of improving the standards of students in the region were also discussed.

The experts highlighted the importance of providing teachers with training and professional development programmes as well as improving their financial status.

They also emphasised the need for developing the education system, curricula, schools’ buildings and modern technology.
