Dubai: The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) announced on Saturday, after an emergency meeting, plans to change examination timing for grades 4 to 12 in Dubai schools following the national curriculum. The new times will start an hour and a half later than the usual time.

This comes in the wake of an announcement on Thursday by the Education ministry that examination times would change from 8.30am to 10am for grade 12 students on the national curriculum, due to the foggy conditions in the morning.

The ministry directive mainly targeted grade 12 pupils since they undertake common finals across the UAE while the education zones, councils, and authorities across the UAE have the flexibility of applying the same decision to other grades.

This decision applies to public and private schools following the national curriculum, which also includes adult education centres and home learners.

According to Taha Al Hamri, head of the administrative services department at KHDA, the decision was made following a intensive consultation with educationists and principals who all consented to adding to the ministry's directive and include other grades.

Coordination

This should allow for easier coordination of exams and transportation. Out of the 65 public schools in Dubai, 42 schools were consulted on the new changes.

First term exams are set to commence on Monday and will continue till January 15.
