DUBAI - High school students will have to attend special English language programme before they get admission to the Zayed University (ZU).

The programme, which aims at improving the skills and upgrading the efficiency of secondary school students in English, is being implemented jointly by the Ministry of Education and Zayed University.

“The programme will come into effect in December, said Dr Fawziya Badri, executive director for Education Affairs at the Ministry of education.

The programme will cost the student between Dh 2,600 and Dh 3,100 including instructor fees.

“The Ministry of Education, however, will bear 80 per cent of the training costs of the students from the Northern Emirates,” she noted.

Abu Dhabi Education Council will pay the costs for the students of the Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region (Al Gharbia), while Dubai-based Knowledge Authority will bear the costs of the Dubai students.

“The students will pay Dh500, which constitutes 20 per cent of the training costs, as fees for admission, if the paid amount will be reimbursed by the trainee after completing the programme,” Dr Badri said.
