DUBAI - UAE Education Minister, Dr Hanif Hassan launched on Saturday, the ‘My Family Reads’ Project at the Sheikha Bint Saeed Primary School for Girls in Ajman to encourage students to read and gain more knowledge.

During the inauguration, the education minister read parts of the collection of books before 481 students and 41 of the school’s administration staff.

Present at the launch were Obaid Al Matroushi, director of Ajman Education Zone; Shaikha Khulood Al Qasimi, director of the curriculum department in the Ministry of Education; and, Muneera Abdulla, principal of the school.

Dr Hanif said the project is one of the ministry’s initiative in line with the federal government’s strategic plans to develop education and raise cultural and educational awareness among the students as well as help build UAE’s overall development plan.  “The programme also aims at building up reading skills and encouraging students to benefit from their free time. Books are the main source of knowledge and culture. Families also must specify a time for reading until it becomes a daily habit,” Dr Hanif said.
