Riyadh: Under the patronage of King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, Nayef Arab University for Security and Science (NAUSS) will host the 41st regular session of the Federation of Arab Universities in Riyadh on Sunday.
"The King's patronage of this important session, to be attended by the heads of more than 160 Arab universities, is the embodiment of the attention and care given by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the reaffirmation of the Kingdom's leading role in supporting joint Arab action on all ... levels," said Dr Abdul Aziz Saqr Al Ghamdi, president of NAUSS.
The conference aims to achieve a number of important goals highlighting closer cooperation among Arab universities and coordination of efforts among them.
It also aims to work with regional and international universities, institutions and organisations to encourage the establishment of research centres that support scientific research, quality control of university education and student activities at inter-Arab universities.
Changes
The conference will study the creation of balanced, quantitative and qualitative changes in university education, in addition to the development of systems of graduate studies and research work at Arab universities.
The importance of the conference is to discuss ways to develop higher education.
It is held at a time when the overall evolution of the Arab system of university education is imperative to keep pace with the requirements of the times and challenges.
It is expected that the total number of students enrolled in higher education in the Arab world in 2010 will surge to about six million.
