Dubai: Nine-year-old Ruba Nedal, studying at a charity school, is passionately reading books to meet the one million book target.
She knows with every book she reads, she is giving one to school children in need.
National Charity School is one of the few schools in the country to offer education for orphans and children with parents earning low incomes.
It has a simple structure and facilities but is vibrant with inspiring stories of children wanting to achieve their goals.
Noor Khalil, a student, said she is excited to be part of the initiative of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, as it is creating educational opportunities for children.
Dr Mohammad Robin Edris, General-Director of National Charity School said more than 4,170 pupils take part, accounting for about 12,150 books read daily.
According to Dubai Cares, on November 10 National Charity School read more than 13,300 books, placing it among the top ten ranked schools that have the most read books.
The school also annually contributes their old and used books to charitable schools in Nigeria and India, said Dr Edris, adding that being in a charity school doesn't mean they cannot give back.
