DUBAI — Dubai Education, a subsidiary of Emirates Investment and Development Company PSC (Emivest), has signed an agreement with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO) to develop and enhance education in Arab society and refine it to the ranks of developed nations.
Besides other projects, the two agreed on the ‘Dhad Certificate’ for private and public school students to be granted after an assessment test, said a Press release.
This test would focus on the concept of identity and citizenship among various groups in society, locals or expatriates.
The purpose of the certificate is to reiterate Arabic as the official language in all Arab countries, enhance the educational community of the Arab world and performance of personnel departments in both public and private sectors; enhance the performance of teachers of Arabic and facilitate integration of various social strata in Arab societies.
Buti Saeed Al Ghandi, Chairman of Emirates Investment Group, said “Dubai Education, with the cooperation of ALECSO, is implementing ‘Dhad Certificate’ project as a new basis for Arab personality, enabling Arab identity to maintain a grasp on its inherent rich cultural values within a continuously changing world. This is in addition to many other projects under implementation.”
He added, “We are all set to open up to existing international institutions associated with the subject of identity, in an attempt to benefit from and interact with the latter’s perspectives on the reality of the past, present and future of the Arab World’s educational, scientific and cultural developments.”
Dr Karim Chelli, President of Canadian University of Dubai which is owned by Dubai Education, reiterated the need for Arabic language.
“Arabic language has carried the torch of human civilisations for centuries and it is through the Arabic language that this country will be able to cope with time’s callous and unrelenting erosions. What has been passed down by the torch bearers of civilization is attributed to the Arabic language.” Another project is the e-book project where the learner will receive an interactive education focusing on critical thinking skills and relieving the learner of the monotony of traditional textbooks.
