Abu Dhabi: Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan on Friday underscored the importance of the academic accreditation process for educational institutions looking to match global quality and performance standards.

The minister made his remarks during a meeting with members of the council on academic accreditation at the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT). A proper accreditation was critical if institutions were to answer to the demands of the local and regional job markets, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, HCT Vice-Chancellor Dr Tayeb Kamali said the accreditation council had discussed a report on executive plans proposed by all colleges to achieve high levels of sustainable development.

Issues discussed at the meeting included global awareness, citizenship, critical thinking, communication skills and teamwork, said Dr Kamali.
