DUBAI - About 21 new public schools will commence operations next year and will start admitting students at the beginning of the year, it was announced on May 13 following a meeting of educational heads in the UAE.
It was also revealed that specialised Arabic language academic supervisors will be appointed in all public schools in the UAE next year.
This follows the decision of the Ministry of Education to set standards for the new National Curriculum.
A decision was also made to allocate around Dh9 million for the maintenance of Madares Al Ghad Schools.
The Minister of Education, Dr Hanif Hassan, met with Dr Foazia Badri, Executive Director of Educational Affairs, Mohamed Bin Hindi, Executive Director of Institutional and Support Services, and Dr Abdullah Al Amiri and Dr Ahmed Seifelnasr, Advisors to the Minister, as well as a number of officials and department heads to discuss the ministry's preparations for the next academic year.
Dr Hassan said, "Around 21 new schools in different stages will open next year and they would be prepared for receiving students at the beginning of the year.
A team of experts in Arabic language, teaching methods and children psychology as well as teachers, supervisors and academics has been set up to set the standards of the new curriculum, which would try and adopt modern educational techniques.
Dr Hassan also reviewed a report for the new academic year which included 102 vacant positions for teachers, team leaders and principal advisors. While some have been filled, the ministry is currently looking into the applications it has received for the posts.
Over 70 fresh national graduates from Zayed University and the Higher Colleges of Technology have been appointed as English language teachers for schools.
The minister called on the executive directors to take necessary action to assist school administrations, teaching staff and students to commence the next academic year in an effective educational environment as per the instructions of the federal government's strategic plan.
