ABU DHABI - At least 20,000 students in the emirate of Abu Dhabi attended the summer programme 'Sayfuna Mumayaz' that concluded yesterday, according to a senior official at Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC).
The Director-General of ADEC, Dr Mugheer Al Khaili, told Khaleej Times that the programme covering Abu Dhabi city, Al Ain and Al Gharbia, included activities related to music, arts, English language, computers, civil defence with special emphasis on handling fires, and traffic safety awareness.
"We aim at creating an innovation spirit among the students and to help them to do something good in the summer," said Dr Al Khaili.
Meanwhile, Major Younis Mohammad Al Buloshi, Head of the Social Support Department in Al Ain, affirmed the importance of organising such activities to raise a generation which can respect the law.
In Al Ain city, some 125 pupils visited the Al Ain Social Support Department. The students also got training at the Civil Defence Department and learned the steps of fire-fighting and what to do in case of fires.
