ABU DHABI — The IDEA 2008 UAE Open Talent Search competition was organised by the Innovative Development Centre for Educational Aptitude (IDEA) on the Abu Dhabi Indian School campus on Friday.

Aimed at recognising student achievements, over 2,500 students of 24 nationalities from 41 schools in four emirates participated in the event, held under the patronage of Dr Hanif Hassan Ali, Minister of Education.

Drawing and colouring competitions, which were held in six categories of student groups from 1st to 12th grades, witnessed the highest participation — over 1,600 students. Poetry and elocution competitions were held for the senior students.

Dr Maryam Al Ali, Director of Private Schools Education, Ministry of Education, who was the chief guest at the glittering award presentation ceremony, hailed the children for their energy and drive in participating in such events where students of diverse nationalities compete.

"We believe this will greatly help the student community in raising their competency and confident levels and I encourage IDEA to continue their student-focused programmes," she said.

Students of Little Flower Private School, Abu Dhabi Indian School, St Joseph's High School, Sherwood Academy, Cambridge High School, Al Ain Indian School, Indian Islahi Islamic School, Wisdom High School, Sunrise English School and Al Noor Indian Islamic School won prizes in the competitions.

Abu Dhabi Indian School secured the award for the highest number of participants and Al Taawan Private School (Sherwood Academy) for the second highest number of participants.

The event was sponsored by Al Reyami Group, Al Fara'a Group and NMC
