RAS AL KHAIMAH — Thirteen private schools in Ras Al Khaimah, including Arab, Indian, Pakistani and other foreign schools, have increased their tuition fees by 10-30 per cent for the new academic year after getting approval from the RAK Education Zone.
Seif Salem Al Jaber, Chief of the Department of Special Education in RAK Education Zone, said recently that the zone has approved the requests of 13 schools in the emirate to increase their fees after holding discussions with them.
These schools have to conform to the new regulations regarding the the special education system in the emirate. He noted these schools had submitted their requests a long time back to allow a hike in the fees, citing the rise in the cost of living and prices of goods and services in the country.
The zone allowed the increase only after ensuring that their demands were justified.
Al Jaber stressed that the new statute of the Department of Special Education in the education zone details the new regulations regarding fee hikes by schools.
According to them, the new schools could increase the tuition fees only after three years from the date of opening.
After the third year, the increase would be 5-10 per cent in the first year, 10-20 per cent in the following two years and 20-30 per cent after the third year.
All hikes have to be approved by the RAK Education Zone.
According to Al Jaber, the requests for fee hikes by the private schools would be subjected to the new regulations and the schools could not increase the fees arbitrarily.
