ABU DHABI — Abu Dhabi’s new 10-year strategic plan includes nine objectives aimed at enhancing the education process in the schools in the emirate.

This was stated on Thursday by the Director of Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec), Dr Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, during a meeting with 750 principals of 305 public schools in Al Gharbia Area, Al Ain and Abu Dhabi city.

The Adec’s objective is to focus on producing world-class learners who embody a strong sense of culture and heritage and who are prepared to meet the global challenges.

“We defined the major values that should be the backbone of implementing the new strategy. They include team spirit, integrity, transparency, respect for children, colleagues and parents, accountability, as well as compassion,” said Dr Al Khaili.

The 2008-2018 strategic plan has nine aims starting with human capital as the work should be attractive to the workforce that is continually learning and expanding its capacity to shape Abu Dhabi’s education future.

The second objective is to develop an effective strategic management as a major contribution towards educational transformation in Abu Dhabi by developing strong leadership and effective management at all levels as well as by opening and accountable governance system that plans for a shared future. The curricula is the third objective. “We work to ensure innovative and effective curricula by meeting or exceeding the international accreditation standards for all programmes; seeking external evaluation of the curricula; developing the standards-based curricula supported by assessment and data analysis; in addition to providing technology for integration into course content.

Process and operations management is the fourth objective that is meant to maintain and strengthen the effectiveness of all operational and administrative functions through a comprehensive process that establishes consistent definitions of performance standards that are reinforced by ongoing management systems. The fifth and sixth strategic objectives are the learning environment and assessment of students’ performance. The aim is to reach excellence, individuality, interdependency and self-reliance so that all students can achieve their full potential.

The seventh strategic objective is to build coordination among parents, communities, schools and Adec through training and communication.
